Question

Discrepencies with a consolidated student loan

What is the name of your state? Florida

What exactly are the rights of the borrower? I have searched all over the internet AND our lender's web site and haven't a clue!!

Backstory: We took out a consolidated loan approx. 9-10 years ago for $29,000 (including interest charges) ... approximately 6 years after we signed the loan agreement, the lender sold out to someone else. We noticed a few glitches: for one, I signed the promissory note as well (even though they aren't my loans) and we sent the note in ... the "new" lender refuses to acknowledge that I ever did!

Fast forward: We've paid $29,000 and STILL have a balance of $29,000 ... the amount borrowed is listed as $4,000 on the web site and in their records, however, we still owe $29K?

To boot, we've asked them numerous times to provide us with a copy of our promissory note (we'd like to see if it's the same one as the one WE signed) and a payment history. Each time, they promise they will send us proof and our history, and each time nothing happens!!

Please ... any suggestions? Any remedies we can avail ourselves of? The only other thing we can think of is to dispute their entry (we're a couple of months late) on our credit report!

Please help!! Thank you SO much!!

(I originally posted this under "Debt Collections" but it seems that this may be the more appropriate venue -- so please forgive me if I seem to be nagging!!)
