Ex Girlfriends bankruptcy

What is the name of your state? California

An ex-girlfriend filed bankruptcy in 1996. I was a co-signer on one of her credit cards. She included this card in her bankruptcy and never told me about it and I was never contacted by the credit agency for repayment. I still live at the same address listed on the card.

Just recently I applied for a dept. store credit card and was denied saying I had a bankruptcy listed on my report. I filed a dispute with the reporting agency and they wrote back saying that the CA verified that the status is being reported correctly. "I never filed bankruptcy!" Is there anything I can do about this?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

A little patience should clear the problem. LAst week, all 3 CRA's settled a classaction lawsuit onthat issue. A cosigner has a bk on their report and they never filed. They've agreed to delete these entries. A settlement conference is schedule for this month and likely a timetable will be set. Bookmark www.ajc.com and click on the business section everyday. Equifax is a huge employer in ATlanta and the AJC has been carrying reports on the lawsuit.
