Question

Expired SOL

What is the name of your state? CT

I have many charged-off accounts in 1998 & 1999. Recently I noticed that some accounts were taken over by collection agencies on my credit report but these accounts were given recent dates. How can I stop this from happening because it is making my credit report worse. They make it seem that some of the accounts are recent but in truth they are 4 to 5 years old.

Help anyone - Thanks

The only thing that counts is whether or not these CA's changed the Date of Last Activity. THAT would be illegal re-aging. They can accurately list they date they aquired the account, that will NOT extend the 7 year reporting period. Collections cannot outlive the original account's negative entry and 7 year reporting period. Any collection is going to trash your score.

On my old accounts, my credit reports show "last updated" as of this year (2003).

Mine are about 7 years old and were charged off in '96. What do you think TransUnion means by "last updated 2003"?

Usually it means the last time the CA reported on it.

That is exactly what I mean about the last update date. They list when they get the account then list the update date. The reason why I ask this because I was trying to buy car and the guy who ran my report said these account are current. Can they do that?

Unfortunately, a lot of credit scoring models see date opened and assign a recent value.
You need to get someone to actually look at the account and see the chargeoff date.
