A few questionsWhat is the name of your state? Georgia If i got issued the credit when I lived in Oklahoma and moved to Georgia which laws would apply if they were differant according to how long like a charge off stays on your credit report? Also where can I find those kinds of laws? Lastly if you owe a debt, for 1000 dollars, you haven't paid it in over 7 years, not even contacted the company, they sold the debt 5 years ago can that company keep reporting the the debt, isn't that like changing the date or something? Thanks for your help. |

| The Fair Credit Reporting Act is the law. http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra.htm Deroga like chargeoffs reamin for 7 years regardless of state. Here are the FTC opinion letters. Look at the ones under 605: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra/ Your last question is called reaging and is illegal. Get your credit reports and find the orginal chargeoff date. If 7 years have passed, the CRA's need to remove the tradeline. |
