garnishing wages due to past due dental bill that did not need to be done

hello my name is laureen , i live in the state of michigan and in 10/05/00 i seen a dentist in macomb county michigan in which stated i needed scaling and root planning done , due to bone loss and my gums were receading. i went along with the procedure listing to my dentist , while having the work done it was very painful and my mouth bleed very badly, times goes on i recieve a explanation of benefits from metlife , my dental insurance company stating they were not paying for the scaling and root planning , they have viewed the x-rays and and stated i did not have any bone loss or nor was there any gum problems , everthing looked healthy therefore they were not paying for the procedure that costs 400.00, so i would have to pay this amount.up-set and frantic, i went to another dentist months later , and got a second opinion. and they have also stated i did not need the any scaling and root planning done my gums and bones were healthy. ok , a month or 2 later i get a phone call from a collection agency asking me for 526.00 dollars , and yelling and screaming, and demanding that they have the money on there desk the nesxt day , i told them to send me the appropriate paper work to me and i will review it they hung up on me. I get a credit report a week later and it is on my credit report, the week after that i have a note on my desk from payroll stating they the dental office's attorney is garnishing my wages for 700.00 starting the 28th of febuary , on top of being so embarresed at work, i call the insurance company again and they tell me this time to get a lawyer. i was never notified i had to go to court over this , i never recived papers in the mail, or anything. I feel like i am getting the bad end of the deal here, why did the dentist do work on me that i did not need ? or why did'nt he get the work pre-approved from my insurance company first ? i am so confused and frustrated , some thing is'nt right and i did not get a fair chance, please help , can i stop the garnishment ? should i get a lawyer to represent me ? help

Yes - you need an attorney to sort this problem out. I can't believe they were able to obtain a judgement AND garnish your wages so quickly. The process normally takes months and you need to be serve with a summons to appear in court.
