Unhappy

Hi. I'm in Minnesota.

A few months ago, I was going through some heavy financial difficulties. I became behind in my rent. I made a deal with my landlord to pay it in full by the end of January, and he would not evict me.

However, one week after our phone conversation in which he agreed to allowing me to pay the back rent, I received an eviction notice slipped under my door. Naturally, this angered me, and being that I had to find a new apartment within a month, I could not afford to pay the back rent.

The day after I moved out, I received a phone call from the lawyer representing my former landlord. They were taking me to court for the back rent. I asked if that was necessary, and said that I was perfectly willing to work out a payment plan. He said I'd have to discuss it with the owner of the building.

The next day, I called the owner and said that I could pay him $250 a month until the debt was paid. He said that was unacceptable, I needed to pay the debt in full immediately, and then proceeded to verbally abuse me.

Today, I received a notice of garnishment. It didn't have the amount I owed on it, nor was a copy of the information sent to my employer enclosed. (I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that these things are required.)

Currently, I am already being garnished by the Department of Education for a student loan, they're taking 10% of my pay.

So, my questions are:

1. Is there anything I can do to stop the garnishment? I am still completely willing to pay him $250 a month. I don't qualify for any exemptions.

2. Will both creditors be able to garnish me at the same time?
