Getting off of a Joint account

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri

I have (mistakenly) signed on a loan for a ATV, for what is now an ex, thinking I was co-signing. I did not notice that i was signing it as a joint account. With me being the primary card holder. The account, fortunately for me, has been kept current for 2yrs. I have closed the account after the ex almost maxed it out by putting a second ATV on it a year ago. Is there any way at all for me to get off the account and have them just use him as the primary card holder? I don't care how they do it...if they have to raise his min. payments or APR. This has really messed up my credit and can not get a loan because of this. Or am i stuck with this till he can get a loan in his name and pay this one off. The company will not refinance it, they say he has to go to another bank. I also have the issue of trying to pay the sales taxes on this since he has not. But i can not since the original paper filed to the state has just his name on it. Why do i not have the right to get my name on it if it was purchased with my credit?
