Help, i was involed in a SCAM, $6,000 gone!

What is the name of your state? Hawaii

do you folks know of those scams happening to people all over the world? people trying to squeese money out of the U.S. illegaly. For example, widthdrawing money from individual's bank account without their consent, sending notices to helpless people saying they owe an anonymous source some money, all that stuff. well i had something happen to me just this very week, i had $6,000 stolen from me, the fact is, i'm a college student and i don't even have that kind of money, now i owe the bank what i have to pay within a 5 year time span.

ok, now to the story. a guy claiming to be from a different country deceided he wanted to buy something i was selling on a local classifeid's website. i agreed as long as he would pay for shipping. he then sent me $8,000, told me to keep $2,000 for the item and send the rest to his agent who takes care of shipping (NOW WHAT KINDA DUMB A@$ WOULD FALL FOR THIS). so he sent me the check, i cashed it at my bank, and sent him the remainder. i got a call from by bank just yesterday, they told me that just now they found out that the check was a fraud. so i had to go down there to clear things up, i told them what happened, i talked to the local police, i talked to the FBI, even the Secert Service. after a day of running around, and using up a full tank of gas, i am poooped and i have a checking accout of -$8,000 (i used 2 grand to pay for tuition). the bank is currently holding me responsible of paying back the sum. they are allowing to give me a loan towards this. Now to my question:

I took the fraudulant cashier's check to the bank. the teller, with the supervisor's consent, cashes $6,000 of it and puts $2,000 into my account all within the timespan of about 5 minutes. For a person like me, there was no way i could tell the check was a fake. would it in anyway be the banks fault for not checking with the bank of the check? am i completely liable for paying this $8,000 back? i would understand of paying $2,000, but the whole $8,000? I know that my bank is covered by NCUA, but would the insurance cover this situation? i need some serious help!!!! thank you for reading, please email me!

p.s. I wasn't calling myself a dumb a@$, i just made a really bad mistake, thats all. i'm still young and learning how the real world works.
