hospital billsWhat is the name of your state? IL I was just curious if there was anything I could do about this situation. For some reason, for a period of time, my mail was not being delivered to my house after my mom got a PO box. Because of that, my bills wet to a CA. When I got a call from the CA, I tried to work payment out with them, but because I couldn't afford much, they wouldn't work with me. Now I have a new bill with the hospital, and called them to work out arrangements, hoping they would lump my old stuff in too. They are telling me that they can't, nor will they accept the $20/month I said I could afford for the current bill. Basically, the only way the CA will accept payments is if I send $150/month (impossible) and they hospital will only accept payment in full. I am waiting to hear from a financial counselor form the hospital to call me about the current charges, but what about the old ones? |

| Your options are limited, but you can try a few things. As long as you plan to pay on this debt (and pay it in full), you may as well just start sending money to the collection agency. Even if it isn't what they want, just send it anyway. DO NOT SEND A PERSONAL CHECK. DO NOT SEND CASHIER'S CHECKS WRITTEN ON THE BANK YOU BANK WITH. Send only money orders. With each money order, enclose a letter stating that this is the most you can afford to pay. Send the payments certified mail, RRR ONLY. If they do decide to sue later, you'll be able to prove to the judge that you made a good faith effort to pay. Sending it certified RRR proves that they actually got it and didn't send they money orders back to you (if they don't). They CAN refuse payments. Just be aware of that. There's really not much you can do other than pay the CA or don't pay the CA. Either option has risks. Paying has a couple less than not paying ![]() |
