How do I protect myself

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? AZ

My spouse is a compulsive gambler. We have been in a twelve step program for 3 years. My spouse has been unsuccessful in her attemps to quit for longer than 30days. I have removed her from all my credit cards and checking accounts. My spouse's pay is direct deposited into my checking account. I have moved my mail to a post office box where I have sole access. I have consolidated the gambling debts three times and am barely making it.

I have been unable to eliminate the "junk mail" credit card offerings coming addressed to my spouse at our residence. These have been used by my spouse in some cases way beyond the maximum for gambling. I have refused to obligate myself for anymore gambling related debts.

How can I protect myself from these additional gambling debts? How can I stop the unsolicited approved credit cards from coming in our residence mail?

**You could get your own post office box and have all your mail forwarded there and make sure your the only one with a key.

Go the www.the-dma.org (Direct Marketing Association) and click on the blue link (called "FOR CONSUMERS") on the right hand side of the website and find the address/phone number for submitting your name/address to the DO NOT CALL/DO NOT SEND JUNK MAIL LIST.

Also contact any one of the credit reporting agencies to have a freeze put on your and your husband's credit account so that any future charges your husband makes, the vendor will have to call you first to get your approval or denial before the charge goes through or is voided.

Dandydon: The poster appears to be a male since he referenced his spouse with the female gender "her" terminology. I like your idea of using the mail opt out and do not call list. That is a great suggestion!

While the DMA and junk mail opt out may work, the credit card offers mostly come from info sold to them FROM THE CREDIT BUREAUS !! You need to make sure that you and your wife OPT OUT with the credit bureaus or you'll still keep getting 'offers'. They have a toll free number to opt out of all 3 bureaus for either 2 years or for life - she might want to opt out for life

Info is here: http://www.pirg.org/consumer/credit/bureaus.htm

You do have another problem however. AZ is a community property state. All those gambling debts racked up by your spouse during your marriage are just as much your problem as they are hers, unfortunately.
