how to take joint credit card off my credit?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington
In 2007 my ex husband and I had a hearing on division of property with an arbitrator.
In the settlement I paid monies to my ex husband for a Lowes home inprovement store credit card jointly owned by us. He was given this money and never paid and closed the account. Unfortunately the arbitrator did not order him to payand close it.
I have recently tried to call the creditor and explain the situation. They closed the account but the balance still shows on my credit record of $3800 he had charged for himself right after the divorce. I cannot contact him.
I have tried to get a home loan and was denied because of too high balances.
I am trying to get my credit score higher but cannot do so with that account showing. I have tried to contact my former attorney that resided over the case, but she will not contact me back. How can I resolve this problem? I would like this to not be on my credit, since I have paid the monies owed to it and I did not make all the charges.

The big problem here is that you paid the money to your ex-husband instead of to the creditor. The creditor is not a party to your divorce and does not have to honor your settlement. They are entitled to their money and will get it from either your or him.

My suggestion to you is to pay the creditor and then sue your ex.
