I might know the answer but going to check

What is the name of your state? Indiana

I finally found my credit report from a year ago and was going over things on it. I have a few questions though.

1. I have an account on there that I KNOW was paid and it shows I still owe 450$. This account was paid in 1991 yet the credit report says last date reported was 1999. I have searched the collection agency online and can't find them... how would I clear this up? It was from an apartment complex that has new ownership since I rented from them in the early 90's.

2. There is an entry from "Ameritech" from the last 'date reported" as 7-1997 for remaining balance of $231.00. The following entry is from "collection Company" for the same amount... last "date reported" as 9-2000, showing the original creditor as Ameritech. Isn't this 'buying' out and re-reporting illegal?... Actually we have another similar to that only with a THIRD company getting it from 2000 and reporting it in 2002.

3. I realize that the SOL in In is 7 years from 'last paid' .. how do you find this out if the dates of report are on here and not LAST PAID because I know some of these haven't been paid on

Sorry to sound 'ignorant' but I'm wanting to pay off some of these debts and clear up my credit as I have a few years and need to try to refinance my house.. hoping to have better credit.

TYIA

On the first item, I'd just dispute it with the CRA's as out of date.
The 2nd item looks OK if they have the orginal chargeoff date showing. They can show a date where the account was transfered and I know that looks misleading but, as long as the DOLA from the OC hasn't been changed, they're OK.
The SOL for reporting is 7 years from chargeoff {roughly speaking} or, 7 years from CO plus, 180 days from first default.

You're reply couldn't come at a better time . I am in the middle of messing with this all now...

So are you saying on the first debt not to even contact the collection agency and simply contact the credit bureau to dispute it?

Also, it's early sorry to sound dense, would I then need to contact all the agencies and have them all validate the debts in order to see the last payment date made as by the credit report I can't tell when that date was.

For instance.. I have one I have one that when I received the letter from the CA I called to see what this debt was. It's a $145 debt(yes realize it's not a big one) that the account was opened with the original creditor in Aug. of 1998. I can guarentee there's been no payment made since 1999. However the CA is RJM(I've heard about them) and the CR says the date opened was 8-2002 and last reported 1-2003. So I know it's been 5 years since they have gotten a payment but the dates on the CR don't match. When I did contact the CA I didn't ask when the last payment date was.

Part of my point in going through all this is I'm wanting to repair my credit before I HAVE to refinance in 4 years. I bought a house on contract and would prefer to have it through a bank but I can't get the loan for it. If I'm going to work on the credit I would think it would be better for me to pay off the ones that won't simply be discharged before I have to refinance. We live on a small budget so I'd prefer to start at the top and work my way down if you know what I mean.

Stuff that is way old like the apt complex, I'd leave the ca out of it and just see if the CRA's will just delete. They'll check with the CA and the CA may not respond and it'll drop off automatically.
This one with RJM, you will need to demand validation. If they reply with a letter saying they don't have to validate because they are now your creditor, post back. I know of a lawyer that is gathering info for a possible class action lawsuit.
Have you looked at www.creditboards.com
That's a nice site for credit repair.

I've been at www.creditinfocenter.com looking over stuff.. I will surely look at that one also.

I also went to equifax to dispute the 1991 debt. I received a copy of my credit report last year through my realitor and although it was from equifax it came through another agency so hopefully I disputed it correctly. I also disputed two other claims on grounds that I don't believe they were 'our' debts nor can we seem to find the CA. Even the CR has a page listing creditors and that one isn't listed and can't be found online so if they can validate it then I will demand they give me the contact info they have on that CA so I can also contact them.

I will check out that site and I will also see if RJM has a website to send them a letter of validation to ..

Thanks.. much appreciation
