Identity theft from close friend

What is the name of your state? Connecticut
long story short... i lived with this woman for almost 6-7 years cause i had problems with my family after my father past. i moved in her house with her son and daughter who were both very close friends freshman year of highschool. didnt move out until after graduating when i joined the army. graduated in CT and moved to FL after i joined. the whole time in ct living with her. about 2 years later i got out and missed my home. she offered her house for a short while when i moved back until i found a place. it was brought to my attention that Gypsy the woman who i lived with and thats the name that everyone knows her by. she told me she had a few accounts in my name but swore to God and all that, that none of them were cards or had anything to do with my credit. ok i didnt care as long as it had nothing to do with MY CREDIT. slowely but surely i looked through her desk while she wasnt home. i found a couple at a time but she has atleast 7 accounts in my name. she offered to get a copy of my credit report to prove
she wasnt messin up my credit. but when she gave me my copy i could tell she typed it by hand and left the accounts she had off and only showed what i really had. ok im furious about all this and she was diagnosed with cancer so she is really sick. i moved out almost 9 months ago. I thought if i left the bills to her then she would pay them off. either that or call the police. because she did so much for me in the past i figured id let her pay them off. and here we are 9 months later and the bills have pretty much not moved cause she has only been paying the minimum payment of 15 or 20 on a 300 to 400 dollar bill. I have given her ample time to pay these. everytime i go and see her i get this guilt trip put on me cause shes sick and doesnt have lots of money. im sorry bout all that but i feel as if i gave her more than enough time. all i want is the bills out of my name. id rather not press charges but now i cant let her push this along any more. ive been told bout small claims but. What is the name of your state?

I did not need to know quite that much.

This is simple. It is identity theft. That is a crime.

You only have two choices. You can pay the bills in your name. Or, you can file a police report for identity theft and send a copy of the police report to the creditors.

Small claims is not an appropriate solution. First, you have not yet suffered any financial damage so you have no standing to bring a suit. What would you want the judge to do? Tell her to pay the bills? You already said she is sick and broke.
