Joint Credit Card Account

I had a joint credit card account with another person, opened over 2 years ago in GA. He made all the charges, and was making the minimum payments. Now he has stopped making payments, and I am making the minimum payments to protect my credit. He has bad credit.

What can I do to collect. Small claims court? Do I have to pay off the debt first? Do I have to notify him in writing? The amount of debt is almost $5,000.

This will be an uphill, though not impossible, battle.

1. Separate out each charge for the entire time you were joint account owners

2. Are these charges clearly his? I..e solely for a man and not a gift by you? I.e. can you show receipts, signatures? by talking with the credit card company, you might be able to get some stuff from them to prove these were solely his charges. Anything he purchased for you? These you cannot make him pay for.

3. Show the dates he made minimum payments
