Judgement Collection Services

State of New Jersey.

I am thinking of using a judgement recovery service to collect on a judgement of $600. I know that most charge a percentage of what they recover. However, I am concerned about the enforcement costs that are deducted from the judgement. Is it possible that if I have a judgement collected, the costs will reduce my take to less than zero? (i.e. I, the creditor, would end up owing the judgement recovery service)

I am not looking to take much from this judgement but I do not want to end up losing money.

Sandford....shame on you, you've been reading the fine print on those judgment collection agency contracts.

You have many resources at your disposal in recovering the judgment yourself. First, do you know how to contact the party that owes the $$$?

Unfortunately, I have spent a too much time chasing this debt. I did some leg work and was able to find some assets (a clear motor vehicle title) and applied to the courts for a writ of execution. However, in New Jersey, the writ of execution is administered by a court officer who is paid a small percentage of the judgement (10%). Since it is a rather small judgement, the court officer has done nothing with my case. I have called him several times and even informed the court of his negligence but to no avail.

I was hoping an enforcement agency with a larger incentive (40%-50%) may be a little more aggressive.

As a norm and I am talking for my industry, the average is 50% of the recovered money. Many have no upfront fees which is covered by us, but recoverable.

skiptracing, collection costs are all recovered thru the debtor. Interest from the date of judgment is also recoverable.

Just an FYI.

We are a legitimate industry, it is our bread and butter, so I take objection!

Regards,

Jennifer, if your objection is directed towards me...it's duly noted. You are one of the few (based solely on your posts towards others here) that do NOT put a blemish on the industry.

SANFORD....with your last past, it's definitely sounding like you are more intested in them paying instead of you getting paid. So by all means, check into some judgment agencies. Just make sure you read ALL THE FINE PRINT before you sign on the dotted line.
