credit card collection problemWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Florida I received a call from a company trying to collect a debt for american express. I had made arrangements with American Express to pay $100.00 the next three paydays. They said ok. Now I received this call today from some type of a legal service saying they were taking legal action to get their money which I was going to pay back. Now they are going to be checking into my assets which only consists of a very small checking account and also possibly attach my wages. Can they legally attach my wages and if so is there some way to keep them from doing this? Thanks, JW Last edited by cheer33776; 11-14-2005 at 09:01 PM. Reason: changing title |

| First of all, did you get your payment agreement in writing? Never take their word for anything, insist that it is all put on paper. In order for them to do anything else, such as seize your bank account, or garnish your wages, they would have to file suit, and get a judgment against you from the courts. If this is a small debt, as you give the impression of, get your payment agreement in writing, when it is paid off, make sure to get a satisfaction of debt letter in writing. Then if the other company persists, you have proof that you paid it.
