I defaulted (on a student loan), and had a judgement filed against me in 1/95. Since then I have been paying money monthly and on time. My credit report shows the judgement but no further activity. By my reports the judgement will disappear from my credit reports on 1/2002. I want to pay off the loan and apply for a mortage. I am led to understand that all activities reported to the credit agencies stay for 7 years. Because this is due to disapear in Jan. 2002, am I better off waiting to pay the loan after that time? By paying it now does it show on my record for the next 7 years? If I am going to pay it now, what should I ask the current creditor to do? |
