Looking for optionsWhat is the name of your state? NY For approximately 12 months I've had a Discover card with 0% interest. When I opened the card it was advertised at 0% until Dec 2006 and then to keep the 0% interest for the lifetime of the balance, you had to make 2 purchases each billing cycle. I called and spoke with customer service to verify the validity of that and even made sure that there was NO minimum purchase, just as long as it was 2 purchases. After having that verified I felt this was a decent offer. In October I received a letter from Discover that was entitled : Helping you extend your special balance transfer rate. I had already had it marked that I would have to make the 2 purchases each billing cycle, or payoff the card, to avoid the interest. But, the letter seemed to have offered me something better. Here is the first paragraph: "Here's some important information that will help you extend your 0.00% balance transfer annual percentage rate (APR), which is currently set to expire on December 26, 2006. You will continue to receive this great low rate until the balance transfer is paid in full if you make 2 purchase/cash advance transactions and keep your account in good standing. We hope the information below will answer any questions you may haev about maintaining your low balance transfer rate."..... and it goes on about how your payments apply to the 0% interest portion first and about how the transaction have to post during the billing cycle and they are not responsible for any merchant delays in posting. So, when I received this letter I thought GREAT. Now I don't have to make 2 purchases every billing cycle, but only before Dec 26, 2006...which I did. Received my January statement still at 0% interest, but just received my February statement and they charged me interest. I just called Discover and she said well that's what the offer was and I explained to her about my letter (which I am glad I saved) and she said again about the original offer. I said about credit cards always changing their terms and with this letter being dated after the fact and not saying anything about having to make the purchases every billing cycle, in my eyes it changed the terms. She told me to fax a copy of the letter in, which I will be doing on Monday and they will see if there is a discrepancy and if there is they will reinstate the 0% APR. My question is this, I have thoroughly read and reread this letter and the only mention of making any purchases is in that first paragraph. It never says anything else in the letter about making the purchases every billing cycle, If they don't reinstate the 0%, do I have any rights here? I do have the funds to pay off the card, if it comes to that, but I like being able to borrow at 0% and would actually rather do some home improvements with the money. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks....What is the name of your state? |

| I was hoping to here opinions on the zero % offers myself. I get about 2-3 per month and about every year or so I open an account with the particular bank and keep my money in long term cd's and just use the cards like a free loan. But I have been told that opening and closing accounts hurt your Credit Score does anyone have an Opinion. Thanks |

| Well I'll answer my own for those who care. I today instead of opening a new account because my zero interest offer was up in March called my CC company and told them I received an offer from enother bank with interest free till march 08 and I was going to close their account. Within a minute the person on the line said ok we'll match it. The whole call took less then 5 minutes. Try a phone call |
