Lost in credit card debt

I am about $35,000 in debt with unsecured credit cards. I have gotten behind on 3 of them and I have been making small payments each month to them. At the present time there are no judgements agaisnt me but I am sick of it all. I stay totally stressed out. Each payday I end up with maybe $30 to spend on necessities. I am a single Mom living on just my income. I have contacted serveral consolidation programs and most of them never get back with me. Not a good sign. I went to ziinet.com and look around and I am wondering if that it what I should do?
I live in Tenn. and I am not very familar with the Bankruptcy Law.
Can you help?

That's a lot of unsecured debt.. my sister was up to her eyeballs with 40K of credit card debt ! She filed for bankruptcy 3+ years ago and got free of it all. She was making less than 30K in salary.. so bankuptcy was a no-brainer. She had no house, no assets, and her car was paid off and 10 years old.

If you don't have a house to worry about, this gets pretty easy. A car loan, if you have one, can be reaffirmed if you can afford to keep it after the bankruptcy. I live in TN too, the exemption for personal property here is $4000.. so you could probably get all of your personal stuff in under that exemption. Car exemption is $2500.

You can file yourself, you just need to be very careful. There's a great book on how to file yourself, it covers everything and all the potential "gotcha's" that could mess you up if you don't do it right.
It may be worth the $20-25 to buy the book and learn what's involved.

Q: "I went to ziinet.com and look around and I am wondering if that it what I should do?"

A: After reading your post, I went to their website to see what they are offering. On reading the 'information', the 'scam-meter' was pegged!!!
1) You only get access to their 'secrets' after paying them.
2) There are no 'get out of debt free' cards. They are either outright scams or illegal.
3) Some of the illegal scams out there:
a) File for a FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number) and use that 'new' number as YOUR personal SSN. Illegal.
b) Simply file for a new SSN. This is not illegal per se, but won't work. First, the new creditors will be VERY suspicious when you ask for credit with absolutely NO credit history and, second, your name, phone number, address (past and present) will eventually link to your old SSN and the old credit file will be merged into your 'new' SSN. And then the feds will knock on YOUR door.

Needless to say, the money you paid to these scam artists will be long gone..... and you will have to 'face the piper' on your own. You will quickly find yourself in a worse position than currently. You will still owe all the money, you will have spent the money tot he scammers.... and could be facing legal action for your 'tactics'.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

Thanks for the infor.

I only have two car payments left on my car. I owe less than $500 . I have no house, I rent and I have no personal property that any one would want or could get any money for it. I am not sure how much an attorney would charge me and I don't have any money to put up front. What is this new law that I keep reading about that is in congress?
If I file Bankruptcy, do I have to claim my 401k, I'm not getting any younger and I need something to fall back on. I cannot withdraw my 401k unless I quit my job. It is in a stock savings plan.

Barb,

Don"t touch the 401K. They are exempt from creditor seizure in bk. So far, there is no new bk legislation but, if any is passed it won't take affect until 180 days after the President signs the bill. Most lawyers give free initial consultations. Find one and see what they suggest.

(Note: This response was to a post offering a link to a scam 'credit repair' site. The originating post (and poster) have been deleted, but I wanted to leave this here in case others run across these types of illegal scams.)

Can you say SCAM?? I knew you could!!
$500 for a 'toolkit'!!
$700 for a workgroup!!
Heck, they even offer a $25k 'guarantee' for only a $1000.00! (only takes 26 suckers and they are making a profit... even in the unlikely case of EVER getting anything!!).

All that money... and they don't tell you a damn thing about what you are 'supposed' to get for it!!! Boy, this one just pegged the Scam-O-Meter!!

In fact, just for the fun of it... lets see what other scams this same 'company' is running from the same address:
Stock-Loans.com (http://www.stock-loans.com/contact.htm/)
Staff Brokers:
http://www.staffbroker.net/
PubCoprom.Pro.com:
http://www.pubcopro.com/

Here is a forum post on this scam:
http://www.chat-cards.com/wwwboard/bankruptcy/messages/820.html

And more:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22dueprocess.org%22&hl=en&selm=9cjvnb%24kb7%241%40baker.cc.tut.fi&rnum=4

And proof that this is just another scam brought to you courtesy of the super scammer: J. Gliha!!
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22dueprocess.org%22&start=10&hl=en&selm=neo-techF4I4zC.B61%40netcom.com&rnum=13

Not only a scammer, but a spammer!!
If you want to lose your money, go ahead and go to his website.

This guy is tied into the same organization (GPG/IGP) as mhansen644. Same type of SCAM too.. but that "program" is from $1800-$2400 for a bunch of tapes ! Same scenario, a paralegal claiming he knows how to beat the CA's using what he touts as a loophole provided by the FDCPA and our "corrupt" banking system.

Thanks for the great research, JETX.. these guys are TROUBLE.

Besides, commercial solicitation is not allowed on these forums. Can you say 'Good-bye' ??
