My Bank Cancelled my Checking Account!

What is the name of your state? California.

Several months ago fraud was committed on my ATM card in the amount of $850. The bank paid a claim on the account for legimitate fraud. Last week I received a notice from the bank that they were closing my account with no reason stated. After insistence that they give reason for cancelling my account they finally admitted that it was because of the fraud claim. I did some research online and found that it is common for banks to cancel accounts after a fraud claim is filed. They will also blacklist you so that it is difficult to open another account elsewhere.

Is this legal? If so, how long is the term of being blacklisted? Do I have any recourse?
