Is my question not important here?

I'm a North Carolina resident. I have a credit card debt on my credit report that has been there for 6 years now. The account has been bought twice by two different collection companies. Each company has it listed on my credit report. Is this legal and how long can this go on? Can 3 companies list it on my credit report when it is considered one debt? I only had one reply on my last post and it really didn't answer the problem. I realize the account can be sold 100 times. I realize the sol is 7 years on my credit report. What the Credit Bureau is telling me is: Each collection agency can report it up to 7 years. This can't be right. 7 years from the last report date would be yesterday. This account is already 6 years old. This is the 3rd post of this question.

This is your 3rd identical post.

Of the two previous, one got no response and the other got a response from 'Ladynred':

So, it appears that you don't like her response (which is accurate by the way).

Lets try again....
As I understand your post, you have ONE debt that has been sold to three different 'collectors' and each of them has reported your history to credit agencies. You may not agree, but there is nothing wrong with that. You need to understand the roles of all these players. The CRA (Credit Reporting Agency) is nothing but a 'reporting house'. They receive reports from subscribers and put them in a file. Other creditors (who are subscribers) can access that file to evaluate your credit pattern and risk. As long as the information in the file is accurate, the CRA is in compliance. So, lets look at the collection agencies.... they are only reporting THEIR actions with you. And each of them are accurate in their own right.

Now, what (if anything) can you do??? First, you need to read and understand the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) which can be found at http://www.ftc.gov/ . You will see that you have the right to challenge the accuracy of ANY report in your file (from your post, I assume you have done this). You also have the right to post a comment to each and every record in your file. Have you done that??? Have you noted that "this report is identical to report XXX" at each of the reports??

So, read the FCRA and exercise your rights. If you have done everything you can do, then accept the fact that each of the reports is accurate and wait the next year when they will ALL drop off.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

I felt that LadyinRed was accurate but you have a much better way of explaining it. You've been a great help and I appreciate it.
