National Check Control

What is the name of your state? Maryland

I got a copy of my credit report. Found out that Certegy was listed for a bad check. Called Certegy to pay it off and was told to contact National Check Control. Called National Check Control and got information for paying off the debt. Did a Western Union payment to NCC, but haven't recieved anything form NCC saying it was paid. The Item remains on my credit report. Tried calling NCC, but keep getting a VM message that says the mailbox is full. What do I do!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!

You PAID those scum at NCC ?? That agency is under investigation by the FTC and numerous State Attorneys General for their FDCPA and other violations of Federal and state laws ! The FTC has FROZEN NCC's assets - that's why they insist on Western Union - to avoid paying numerous judgments against them AND the FTC !

Kiss that money good-bye and don't EVER expect to get a single piece of paper or anything else from NCC.

Too bad you didn't come here first before wasting your money

I hate to be so blunt, but yes, you've been screwed (and you didn't even enjoy it !! )

It won't be on your credit report forever, no, and you may be able to dispute it off. Its just going to take some patience. Do you have ANYTHING from WU that shows you sent them the money ? That would be something to use when you dispute with the CRA's. Start by disputing it with the CRA's as inaccurate, you've paid it and if you've got proof from WU, send that along with your dispute. If it comes back 'verified', and it may (CRA's are lazy as hell !), then you demand a procedural report on HOW they verified an obviously inaccurate PAID collection.

Head on over to www.creditboards.com and read up on how to get the dispute going, the folks there are quite good at it

All that aside, you need to file a complaint with the FTC, the Atty General of your state, the NJ AG, and the Essex County Bar Assn. Email Scott, he'll give you all the details - tell him LadynRed sent ya
