Need advice/sued for credit card

What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania
I received a letter to appear at District Court for a credit card that was "opened" in 2001 and has not been used for years and years.
My account was sold to a collector and they are suing me for a total of 1,970 dollars!
I totally forgot about this card "at first" because I havent worked for years had surgery/ and I am on disability since 2002. When I remembered after going online, I remember the girl calling me and I told her about my surgery, she said no problem, we are closing the account.
So I get this mail and sent for my credit report. Here is the info according to the credit bureau .
Ok info on my credit report is;
The limit was 600 dollars.
I had charged 594.
I had made payments totallying 500.
They added interest all this time and like I said its now almost 2 grand.
I assume they are coming after me because I am now remarried (2nd husband).
Do I have a chance at fighting this? Geesh, I know I signed a contract, but 1,970 dollars on a credit card that I only owed 100 on yet!
I have two questions; Can I win if I take my credit report with the credt info?
And in PA I read the statute of limitations to sue is 6 yrs. So is that 6 yrs from opening the account or 6 yrs since active?
Thanks for any help.What is the name of your state?

6 years from the date it went into default - usually 30 days after the last payment was made.
