How to respond to summons for cc debt?

What is the name of your state?Nebraska. My daughter didn't pay for cc she got in college.Summons says she has 30 days to respond.Copy of the debt shows it was an internal charge-off dec 31 2004,she made last payment in june 2003.I want to help take care of this but Im not sure what to do next.Should I contact these attorneys and if so how and what should I expect ? Looks as if the attorneys are not related to cc company.Could they have bought the debt? Thanks for any advise

If she does not respond, the creditor will be awarded a default judgment. Afterwards, they can garnish wages, bank accounts and attach non-exempt property.

The only alternative is to call the attorney for the creditor and attempt to negotiate a settlement or a repayment plan.

Expect that they will be reluctant to talk to you since you are not obligated on the debt. They will need daughter's permission before they will speak to you.

Otherwise, expect they will demand payment in full yesterday and threats of boils and plagues of locusts to come upon your house.

Thanks for the information. I'll get ahold of them, it's worth a try anyway. She should've paid it but I do believe the cc companies should not be allowed to set-up shop on campus. They make it to easy for young adults (18-19 yr. olds) to get into this situation. They make it seem like free money and these kids really aren't quite mature enough to handle the responsibility of the debt. Thanks again : )

I agree that credit card companies market too aggressively on campus. Write your congressman and complain.
