Need help please!!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Here is the situation. My mom had her identiy stolen in Jan 2008. She opened up a new checking acct. with her bank and had my name listed as beneficiary. When the bank statement arrived I noticed that both of our names were on the statement. I thought this was odd because prior to I filled out a card as beneficiary and only my mom's name appeared on her bank statement.

She originally had a $500 overdraft protection so she requested that again. I was told that I had to fill out an application also. Don't know why because I never did that before.

Short story. My mom was denied the overdraft protection because they ran a credit check on me and my bankruptcy was noted. My mom has FICO scores well over 700 but because I was on listed on the acct. they ignored her scores and went with mine.

We went to the bank and my mom was told that the only way to remove my name was to open up another new account. Why would she have to go through that all over again?

My mom lives in a condo and her landlord is in preforeclosure. Most places want checking information given and if my name is on the account I am so concerned that she will not be able to rent because of me.

I need some guidance on what can be done.

Thank You,

Because that's what the bank requires.

Apparently a mistake occurred and you were added as a joint owner rather than just a beneficiary. To correct the mistake, your mother will need to open a new account.

If she chooses not to, she also chooses the consequences.
