Question

negotiating payment for old judgement

What is the name of your state? Indiana

I have a judgement, dated 3/97 on my credit report due to an unpaid hospital bill. I have to pay this off within the next three weeks in order to close on a house. I would like to see if I can get the CA to settle for a lesser amount. Any tips for the negotiation?

ROFL !! IAAL - you're priceless

Since this judgment has been hanging around for a while, and collecting interest itself, you need to find out EXACTLY what the total is now.

The best thing to do is make your settlement offer IN WRITING and send it certified, or FedEx - something that will give you a delivery confirmation with a signature and receipt.

Start low, so you have some negotiation room and know your top limit. Make sure you get any arrangement in writing, with signatures and that you get a letter of satisfaction in return.

Thank you very much. I will be in touch with them today. And, that was priceless. Much needed laughter after a tough week.
