Can NYC taxation levy a bank account in New Jersey ? Will be returning to NJ.I owe NY $$. When I open a checking account in NJ as a resident of NJ,can NY levy the NJ account for unpaid NYC taxes?

Short answer: yes.

They have a couple of extra steps to go through to get at your NJ assets, but they can.
