What is the name of your state? Indiana
Ok.. A while back I wrote here about something on my credit report from an apartment that I rented in the early 1990's. Here's the story.. Rented the apt. from 3-1990 thru 2-1991. Two weeks after moving I got a letter from a CA telling me I owed like over 800$ in charges. I contacted them and got a list of things and I disputed most of them.. agreeing to pay 324$ at 50$ a month until it was paid off... so far before 1991 ended this account was taken care of.... Fast forward to 2003. I got a credit report when I bought my house on contract and this apt was still on there. I contacted the number on the CR for the CA and it wasn't valid. Finally I wrote the Credit Bureau to dispute this claim on my report.... I got a letter today stating..."This creditor has verified to CSC that this item has not been paid in full". The creditor has also said the last activity was 10-1997 which is also untrue. The credit bureau gave the address and phone number to the CA.. which BTW.. I did try to contact before but the phone number is invalid and disconnected. I have no proof that I paid this creditor but I believe what happened is that the original amount was put on the credit and the pay off was taken off leaving the remaining that was agreed that I was not responsible for.
Now for my questions...How do I dispute this now other then calling the credit bureau on Monday morning? Also ... aren't they required to give me accurate information in order to contact the CA?
