Old Debt

What is the name of your state?NY
I have two bad debts, AT&T in MA 14 years ago and AT&T in NY 4 years ago and boths still in my credit history when I get the report recently. Both debts about $1200. Is it still too soon not to settle those debts. If it passed the SOL, do I need to settle to have it remove from my credit history?

Standard answer on expired SOL and/or validation and/or dispute letters. There are thousands of posts similar to yours on this forum so I have prepared a standard answer.

SOL

Validation letter samples you can get at :
www.creditinfocenter.com
and www.creditboards.com

Disputes: You can write a letter of dispute to the three credit reporting agencies.

Go this website to find instructions and samples for how to dispute: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/creditreports/

Sometimes errors are easy to remove and sometimes they stick like glue. It is inexpensive to try and not difficult.

I am NOT a creditor-debtor lawyer; stand by for further help.

I am NOT vouching for the accuracy of these websites!

negative items may not stay on a credit report longer than 7 1/2 years after the date of first default

there are some exceptions -- bankruptcy and judgments stay on longer than 7 1/2 years

there is no rule for how long positive items can stay on the report.

Looks like my negative report for more than 10 years back in 1991 still on my report. What shall I do next?

The 7 1/2 years runs from the date of default -- not when you opened the account.

File a dispute with the credit reporting agencies.
