| I have been living in Europe for the past several months. I returned to my US residence for a family issue for a few days, and in the course of reviewing some mail found a summons and complaint filed at the local district court. The complaint is from an attorney for a company I've never heard of and makes a claim for more than $13,000. There is no other information provided, and I haven't a clue what this is all about. The summons states that it expires on 20 February, which is the day I am returning to Europe. I do not plan to return to the US for any reason until fall of this year. How do I address this summons? Obviously the timing on this is terrible, but a default judgement is completely unacceptable. I will be grateful for any help. |
