Paying a Debt/Charge-Off on a CC

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?Maryland

Have an old Credit Card Debt that became a charge-off back in 2000 apx.(Date of Last Activity). In late 2001 early 2002 paid ALL Debts through Equity Loan but in the process was unable to get info on charge-off. Credit Card Company A bought by Credit Card Company B. Called CC-B but they wanted me to send my information. Took care of everything else and moved on.

In March of 2004 moved from another state to Maryland and applied for mortgage. A collection had been put on my account by a CA for CC-B. Was able to get mortgage on spouses credit and moved on. In meantime disputed with Credit Bureaus (2). It just came back as "verified".

In March of 2005 collection dropped-off from 1st CA. Now nothing there except Credit Card Compay C says they bought the charge-off and turned over to their CA. The new CA sends letter saying Credit Card C bought from Credit Card B and now the balance of Charge-Off is now owed to them.

I have read everything I can on the internet and really don't want to spend more $$ on a lawyer if I can find one etc since debt is only $1300. Also the negative item from Credit Card A (as a charge-off) is only on 1 credit bureau right now and all my scores are good with the 1 credit card bureau being the lowest at 680+. Do not want to tank my scores as they were in 2001 (or hurt them) and really want to pay this debt "properly" if such a thing can be done! Yes it would be great to go back to Credit Card A and have charge-off changed to "pays as-agreed" but more importantly want this to stop popping up and pay my debt.

Your post is confusing to me and I can't tell exactly who the players are and the sequence -- could you repost using the names of the original credit and the agencies that have had the account? It will be easier to follow that way.

Also, when was the date of first default -- when was your last regular payment on the account?
