Payment Credit To Wrong Account

What is the name of your state? AZ

Our electric compnay and Gas company is owned by the same company.
Mom and dad payed gas bill two weeks ago on their check my dad wrote :

Payable to : Unisorce Gas Company on the check

In the amount of 71.85
Put the payment sub in the envelope also that was for the Gas company

The Electric company which is also call Unisorce Electric cashed this check and credit the Electric Account.

Today my mom and dad got a knock on the front door from the Gas compnay to pay 127.00 or it will be shut off -

My mom told the guy that they paid it. SO the guy gave them 1 hour to get the problem solved- And yes the electric company admitted it was a mistake and no it can not be changed.

What can my parents do ? the check was made out to the Gas company but the electric company cashed it and credit the electric? Who should they contact about the error beside either on of the two businesses, since they careless about their mistake

No they do not use no where to 127.00 in Gas , they have a wood buring stove ..

You can try calling the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), they may be able to help.

If they admit the mistake, why can't they fix it ?? Did they have a reason ? That's bullhockey.

I agree, there is a reason if they can't fix it. Misapplying payment it's a common enough thing that it should be able to be fixed. My question is, did they pay the electric? The reason they say it can't be fixed maybe because they still owe the same amount.

But the question is, if they applied the gas check to the electric account, then it would lower the electric balance. Was the electric also paid? If not what they may be telling you is correcting it won't help because the same amount will still be due.
