Privacy?Califronia I heard that it is against the law if you recieve a letter from a credit card company or collection agency with your account information and full name showing in the window of the envelope so everybody can see. Isn't this against the Privacy Law or something? |

| I doubt your credit card company would do something thats agianst the law..lol...i mean something so common like that. I doubt any info sent in the mail like that would have too much info on it. and No, it isn't agianst the privacy law. |

Having the full account number showing in the window would be monumentally stupid as it would open the door to ID theft in a huge way.. but then the credit card company's don't much care about that.. as long as they get paid - even for fraudulent charges. If that weren't the case, it wouldn't be so impossibly hard for people to recover from ID theft. I don't know what privacy law it might violate, but IF it's true it may be a violation of something else. Unfortunately there are no laws against stupidity.

To debtcollectorI was told by a attorney that any thing showing in the window of the letter is against the law, he said you can sue the Co. who sent the letter. I was told it was a new law , but this attorney turned out to be right out of law school thats why I posted this on Free advice. Thanks. ![]() |

| What kind of prohibited "account information" are you talking about showing through the envelope window? Certainly your name and address is not private account information. Neither is the original mortgage amount for your home, which was public knowledge, and likely way outdated judging from solicitations I have received. |
