Removal of paid medical collectionWhat is the name of your state? Arizona In sept of 2000 I was in a vehicle accident...around may of 2001, I received a bill for the ambulance service stating that the payment was past due. I sent the service my insurance info and about a month later I received another past due bill. I then filed w/ my insurance who paid the bill and after that I didn't hear anything else. About a year later I checked my credit report and found that I had an unpaid collection for the full amount of the ambualnce service. I contacted the company and they stated that my insurance paid most of the bill but I still owed about $100 which I paid immediately. I asked why I didn't receive a bill for the remainder and they stated that it had already been written off. I recently called the company and asked if they would remove the account from my credit report and they stated that because of the length of time it took to be paid that they wouldn't remove it. This is the only derogatory account on my CR reporting as a paid coll 120 days past due (which still hurts). Since I never signed any promissary note for payment w/ the ambulance service, is there any legal recourse I have to remove this account? |

| To answer your question, not really. The only thing you can do is dispute it as not being yours, but it doesn't sound like it will be hard to show that it is. Insurance payments and what you still owe can be a pain, but it is up to you to make sure everything is paid. On the flip side, if this is the only thing on your report that is bad, I wouldn't worry about too much. It's not going to hurt you a great deal, if at all, and it will be gone eventually. Medical collections are looked at differently by most creditors pulling your report anyway.

| Thanks for your advice. I kind of thought there wasn't anything I could do. It is just that when I want to buy a new car and qualify for those special incentives this charge brings my score down. Oh well, a couple of more years and it will be off. Thanks again. |
