Roommate check fraud

What is the name of your state? MO

My roommate recently stole a blank check from me, wrote it out to herself for $375, signed my name, and cashed it. The bank has her on video and her fingerprint is on file with them. I filed a police report and the bank informed me that they will be filing in conjunction with mine. This will be her first offense as an adult (the previous one was when she was 16 and for trespassing). What kind of charges are likely to be brought against her, and what kind of outcome is likely to come out of this?

I posted this part in the landlord/tenant section, but I figured I'd ask here as well in case anyone knows. How will this affect my living situation? We are both on a single lease, and I would like to have full knowledge of my rights before I talk to my landlord.

Thanks,
Laura

What happens really depends on where in Missouri you are.

In St. Louis or KC, I'd be surprised if she has to do more than pay a fine. In one of the small counties, it depends on the judge. She could go to jail.

Look on Case.net to see the differences.

AS for your landlord, that is a more difficult issue. You can explain the situation and ask to be released from the lease but I don't know if he can evict her for that.
