Question

Running Away from Credit Card Debt

Pls Help!
We are Asians of different nationality. My husband quit his job, will rennounce his PR in Singapore very soon & planning to study in US this year. The problem is.... He wants to runaway with his credit card debt amounting to US$30,300 which he already had, long before I met him!!! I am convincing him of how centralized the banks records are & just pay up the debts slowly or even negotiate with the bank. But he wouldn't listen. I'm afraid that when we reach US, the problem would get worse. I've some questions:
1. If he will runaway with the debts, how will these affect us when we get to US? Is it possible that we will be held in the immigration once the bank has filed bankruptcy on him?
2. Once the bank has filed bankruptcy, and he didn't inform them of his whereabouts, how far would the bank go to chase him to pay the debts?
3. What criminal charges can the bank/govt file against him? Will he be sent to prison or will he just sent back to his home country? Just in case we are already in US?
4. How will these affect me? I'm not a supplementary card holder of any of his credit cards.

If there are any other information you can tell me about my problem, please do so. It will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

As IAAL stated, we can only answer questions regarding US Law. There's simply no way we can know what a foreign government can or will do.

However, since many banks are worldwide, it MAY be possible for creditors to find him in the US. There is NO prison in the US for people who don't pay their debts, and as far as I know, immigration won't be a problem in the US just for debts. If he's listed as a criminal (do they do that?) in your home country I suppose it could affect immigration, but we can't answer that here, sorry.
