school loansWhat is the name of your state? tn me and my husband filed chapter 7 in 1998. my husband attended a school in tx back in 1986 before he went into the army for 8 yrs. he called the school to make sure loan had been payed off and they told him nothing was owed. now after 17 years they sent him a bill from collections saying he owed $1,000.00 left on the loan in 1986 and with the interest over the years he now owes over $7,000.00. they never once tried to contact him and every time we moved we always put in a change of address. what we want to know can they hold him responsible for this loan after 17 yrs. i know that there's only so many years someone can try to collect on a debt. is this right. please respond to this. |

| Student loans don't have a statute of limitations, they go on forever until their paid. I'd write them a letter, certified,RRR asking for full details on the account, as you thought it had been paid years ago.
