Serious Credit Card Woes, Need advice plzI live in North Carolina I have about $28,000 total in credit card debt spread across 6 creditors. 2 have started prelimary court processes. I currently make enough to pay my mortgage and car and to eat. I am considering filing bankruptcy but was wondering exactly what the companies can do to me by getting judgements against me. Can I lose my house?, the items inside it?, my car?, get wages garnished? Thanks for your help in advance. |

| Dear pirate, After judgment is entered against you, the judgment creditor may place a lien against you home preventing you from selling it, refinancing it, or transfering the property. They may levy upon your assets including personal property and bank accounts. They may subject you to a post-judgment debtor examination where you will be required to disclose the location of your assets. In North Carolina; however, they may not garnish your wages unless this is a debt owed to the government. Good luck, JASON@LEGISLATOR.COM |
