Should I dispute this or not? Unauthorized CC charge!

What is the name of your state? South Carolina

On Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 we were shopping at a store, and I was looking at items while the sales clerk was talking to my son who is 5years old. He was looking at an ornament, and they (the sales Clerk & Jeffrey) were talking about how pretty it was. The ornament fell off the gold collar and wire piece that is in the top of the ornament. I assisted in the clean up, and not once did any of the sales clerks mention that I needed to pay for the ornament. I paid for my purchase, and left the store.

Just for knowledge, the display is at knee (stroller)level, and NOT behind a glass case of any kind, nor did the sales clerk offer to "hold" the ornament and "show" it to my son, while I was looking at the item that she had just showed me.

Today, I got a note with a receipt enclosed for the "purchase" of said ornament dated 10/23/07. Apparently they went back and got my card number from Saturday's receipts and charged my card for the ornament $47.30, without even calling me to discuss the incident.

How can they legally charge my card three days after the fact, without any discussion, or permission.

The store manager was very rude, and unassisting.

HELP!

I would suggest taking it up with the store manager before you dispute it with the CC company.

You owe the money. Pay it now or pay it later.
