Should I get a lawyer?

What is the name of your state? GA

I got a collection letter saying I still owed my school $ from 2 years ago. Among my school, the collection agency, and my lender I am really getting the run around. I feel like this is all a big conspiracy. I can't get the same person to quote me the same number twice. One person says I owe one thing, another person states another amount, my lenders say they sent more money than is being accounted for. I am terribly, utterly confused. Don't know who to believe anymore and my credit is at stake. I don't even know how to begin to find a lawyer. Please help.

To find a consumer protection lawyer, go here:

Is this debt on your credit report ? Have you looked ?

If you're dealing with a collection agency, the thing to do is send them a validation letter. This will force THEM to go back to the original creditor to PROVE the debt is yours, including an accounting for the amount.

You can find validation info and sample letters here:

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Can I ask you~ if a lawyer advertises free "initial" consultation. What is the catch?

I'm in the process of getting documentation that proves my tuition was paid for and my school actually owes ME money. I believe that my account with the collection agency is on hold and they said I am no where near having credit problems but I don't believe anything anyone says anymore.
