signing boss's bus. card receipts for him

What is the name of your state?NH

My boss has asked me to make purchases for him on his corp. credit card and sign his name. Is this appropriate behavior for a secretary? When the card was maxxed out recently, the accounting head insinuated that I had been using the card for unauthorized expenses. I have always turned in receipts for all purchases as soon as I get them back from my boss. I want to refuse to use the bosses card. Are there any legal reasons that will support me in this or does the signing policy vary based on company policy?

Signing someone else's name in any official capacity is forgery. You can get into a lot of trouble for this if your boss decides one day that he wants to make your life miserable. If he wants you to have access to a card, he should sign off on you getting your own or see if he can make you an authorized user on his card so you can sign your own name.

How to handle purchases not requiring signature

Thank you for your help. That is what I thought. How does this apply to making purchases for my boss on his card if they are over the internet or a purchase over the phone that does not require any signature, or book hotel? Is this illegal as well if he has instructed me to make such a purchase? I need to know because once I bring this up I will need to know where to draw the line safely and legally.

Personally, I wouldn't do any of it. You have already been questioned by the head of accounting. I could see possibly booking a hotel room for your boss since he will be the one checking in and signing the sales slip, but that would be it. Anything else could get you into trouble.

Can't this man do anything for himself? (A question I'm sure you've asked yourself a million times.)
