is there a limitation on government student loan collection originating almost 20 years ago??????

It is my understanding that goverment guaranteed student loans are not subject to the statute of limitations for collection of time barred debt.

In 20 years, you have not paid your loan? Just curious, what is the hardship that has put you in this position?

No and last time I checked, they can't be discharged in bankruptcy either.

They can only be discharged in bankruptcy if you can prove, to a judge, that to pay them constitutes an undue hardship and the regulations covering this are very strict so it is hard to prove. You can also get them discharged due to permanent disability that prevents you from ever working or returning to school. Otherwise, they can bother you about them forever.
