statute of limitations or validation?

What is the name of your state? KEntucky

Ive gotten a letter from a collection agency for a credit card debt that is now over 6 years old. And the amount of the debt is twice as much as what I originally owed. All I have is the debt letter with the mini-miranda at the bottom.

Should I send a validation letter? Or a statute of limitations letter? How soon is an account closed after non payment?

Thanks!

I'd send an SOL letter.
The important thing is, when you first went into continious default. Not when the account was closed.

Look carefully at the reports. Is the tradeline from the orginal creditor still showing a correct chargeoff date?

the original creditor is listed but it says "closed in 2002" But I called the original creditor and they said the last payment was receieved in june of 1997, and the collector stated that same date as well.

Well, the chargeoff date from the oc show be showing. Nothing says chargeoff approximately 6 moths after 6/97?
Looks like this has been reaged.
I think I'd demand validation . You might also post at www.creditboards.com about how to handle the reaging.
