Student Loan

What is the name of your state? fl
I received a student loan in 1993 from citibank for an illinois university. i am since paying on that loan. that loan was supposed to pay my school debt, but i have found out that it has not. i requested a copy of the promissary note that i should have signed but they said that i went directly through the lender and they did not have it. i did not go through the lender. i talked to the lender and they said that they no longer had a record of my debt. is there anything that i can do?

If the loan isn't paying off your school debt, where is the money going/gone ??

If you didn't go thru the lender, how did you get the loan ?

no, the loan was not applied to my student account. I went through the school to achieve the loan. I picked out the lender via my school. the school is saying that the lender physically handed me a check, and that is not how you receive a student loan. it is to go directly to the school and you then pick it up from the schools financial aid office. the lender only approves or disapproves the loan. i have even recently tried to get a loan from my present school, but it is the financial aid departments approval that stands in the way of receiving a loan. so you see if i received a loan it had to come through the school. but they have no proof of me receiving it from them...the school.

Are you saying that Citibank issued a check to you instead of the school, and that the check was cashed by someone other than yourself? Many schools do loans this way so it's not very uncommon(mine did - it is at the discretion of the borrower to give the funds to the school; I decided to sign it over to the school directly).

student loan

No, the bank did not issue a check to me..it would have went directly to the school. I never received the check, nor was the check applied to my school fees. We had what was called a Promissary Note. This is a document promissing to repay the loan. The school issued this and you were called into the school to sign it. When the check was sent to the school, you were then notified to come in and sign it. I never went in to sign it, but I am paying on the loan now.

What kind of student loan is it? (I know the lender is Citibank, but what was the program?) For the majority of Student Loans, the check is sent to the school and you do not have to sign anything.

ok well why dont you seem more concerned about where the money went? if you nor the school got the money you need to find out! also what i find strange is that the school would let you continue going there if the tuition had not been paid. ??????

I think this is questionable also. You said you were paying a loan back that the lending institution doesn't even show you getting. Then you say that they said they gave you a check. They should be able to pull the copy of the check. I think you know more about what is going on with this loan.
