Student Loan & charged for 2 intrests ratesWhat is the name of your state? Kansas In June of 2002 I was summons to court for a default student loan. It defaulted in 2000. I appeared in court as ordered. The attorney who filed suit did not show up. I went to the county clerk to find out where everyone was and she informed me that noone was there and said all I needed to do was state to her whether I owed the student loan or not. I DO owe the student loan so, YES I admitted that I did and signed saying so. My intentions when in the courtroom were to set up some kind of payments that I could afford however, with noone present I couldn't. My wages were then garnished starting in August 2002. I have since been paying 130.53 every 2 weeks until persent. My question is this, the origonial loan amount was $1500. with intrest on this default loan it became $2045. Now, because they turned it over to collections I am also being charged for an additional intrest rate that the collection agency charges as well as the origonal intrrest rate at a whopping...44% intrests.. I am trying to pay the rest owed in full so they will stop the garnishment but they refuse to take off the intrest for paying early and say I still owe them $859...How many times can they add intrest rates...first it was the student loan at 15% and now the added 29% intrests that Credit World charges. The total I am going to have to pay for this loan is $3335.59. That is if it ever ends....Is that not the same as STEALING??? Can they add intrest on to intrest? Thnks, Ldy025 |

| If they're compounding interest, that could be illegal. It sounds like they might be charging some fees that they aren't legally able to, as well. I would contact an attorney to ask them if the fees (and amounts of fees and interest) are legal. |
