summons


What is the name of your state? illinois.i recieved a summons because of a credit card account in default.The amount is $3400.it says i need to make a written answer by april 24th.i am confused about what this means also what happens if i don't respond by the 24th?what is the largest amount that a garnishment on a checking account be for monthly?

Yes, you must file your Answer with the court. You either agree with or deny the allegations in the Complaint. If you agree with everything, the suing atty will go directly for a default judgment and you lose all opportunity to negotiate a settlement. So, you need to disagree with something in the Answer - the amount is good, they're tacking on all kinds of fees I'm sure. You will be given a court date and you must go to court. You'll likely be offered a settlement prior to seeing the judge.

They can garnish your wages up to 20% of your net. Any levy on your bank account can be whatever it takes to pay the debt, they'll clean out whatever you've got in there and if its not enough, they'll keep doing it until its paid.
