Angry

At&t wireless Michigan

What is the name of your state? Michigan
We signed a contract for At&T wireless phones. We got behind in some bills and were not able to keep our payments current. In Jan of 2003 the last payment was made for 150 for two months following they continued to charge for the cell phones even when they had disconnected the service. Now they have turned it over to a collection agency that calls constantly, sometimes 2 and 3 times a day. The company is called FIRST REVENUE ASSURANCE AMERICAN COMPANY. We made an agreement per phone to pay a monthly amount...after we made the first payment, two days later the phone was ringing and those people said that the payment wasnt enough, we paid check by phone. How can we get these people to quit calling and just accept the payment terms we made originally without additional stress and phone calls? Originally the bill was 356 plus an additional 300 for breaking the contract, now the collection agency is trying to charge fees as well. We are on a fixed income and can't pay anymore then what we agreed upon.
What options are available for us to solve this problem,
we do want to pay, but at this point the anger is making us not want to pay.

Thanks for any assistance you can give us.

See my thread (just posted) about this same type of issue.

I suggest you try the same, as you won't get much of anywhere once it's sent to an outside collection agency.

Oral arrangements are worthless, unfortunately. You're going to have to make whatever payment offers in writing to have any hope of it being heeded.

The continued billing for the cell phone I'd certainly dispute, but first I'd look at your contract to see if there's anything in it in regards to cancellation beyond the 'cancellation fee'.

First Assurance may be an outside collectionagency, but they don't own the debt. Sprint still does. You'll have to make any agreements with them.

Unfortunately, if you gave them your checking account info they can and likely WILL go back into your account !! These nasty CA's have an ugly habit of re-submitting your e-check, after making up a new number for themselves, and drafting your account for whatever amount they want !!

Close the account or get the bank to block any further attempt by that company to access your account!
