Time limitsI live in FL. I was recently given a copy of my credit report and found that an old account from 5/95 was still on there. Isnt that supposed to be gone by now? Also, apparently a company has me down for a phone bill recently from a long distance company I havnent used in 3 years. How can I have a new collection now? The old one is still there. I called the collection agency and told her what I saw and she told me the amount that showed for the one I was calling on was incorrect that it was considerably more. When you total the two collections they eqaul about what she told me. Can they do that? Separate the bills and file a new one which I can only asume to be late charges, since I havent used that company to create any new bills. |

| Items stay on your credit report for 7 years, so, yes, the 5/95 account should be going away. However, it may take a couple of months for you to actually see it go away on the report... CRA's almost always behind in posting. Collectors can keep reporting an account to the CRA's, practically forever, now matter how many of them have it. Sounds stupid, but is apparently true. The Statute of Limitations in FL is 4 years, so its close to expiring. You might be able to ride it out until it expires before they get around to filing a judgement. |
