# of times on credit report? What is the name of your state? Louisiana... Quick question about credit report... My BF has recently noticed that one of his credit accounts is listed four different times on his credit report. All four listing have the same account number and the same credit line listed but they have different amounts listed under "high balance". Three of the listings are under the harmful accounts due to delinquency of payments (each has different instances, etc.) and one listing is under the satisfactory accounts. I've never heard of the same account being listed several times...is this common and legal? I dont' know if the fact that it is listed four times is harming his credit rating even more than it should be. My credit report has each credit account listed only once but I have perfect credit so I don't know if his is a mistake or something that happens when you let your accounts go bad. He also had a judgement filed against him in a seperate case....the judgement is listed as well as the account in bad standing. Is this correct procedure as well? I have a call in to the attorney general's office to ask them but they haven't returned my call yet. If anyone knows the answer off the top of their head though please let me know. Thanks! |

| Its not unusual for there to be multiple entries on a CR for accounts that are also in collections. Usually there will be one entry from the original creditor and then one or more entries from however many CA's have reported it as well. If these are not collections, but are entries from the OC, then your BF needs to dispute the additional entries as incorrect. By law the CRA's must investigate and verify the information and get back to you within 30 days.

Thanks! No, they're not entries from the collections agency. The account was never sent to collections, it's just the same account 4 different times! Thanks for your reply, I'll tell him to get on the phone right away and start getting it fixed. |

| Phone might work, yes. However, your BF would be much better off disputing this in writing (certified rrr). There are letters over at www.creditnet.com and www.creditinfocenter.com for just this sort of thing. At this time of year, holidays, they call it CHOD, it may be easier than any other time of year to get your disputes in and get things OFF your credit report. If you write your dispute, they HAVE to investigate and get back to you in 30 days. If they can't prove the validity of the entries, then they MUST remove them.
