victim of fraud need help

Hi, I live in California and a couple of months ago I was contacted by someone after I had posted an ad for items for sale. They told me they would buy 7,000 worth of items from me. They said they would send me a check for 13,000 and if i could send the remaining funds to their agent in NY. I was thinking it could be a fraud but then they were going to send me a check. If the check was bad then the bank would tell me. When I recieved the check i took it to the bank and they called and verified the check in front of me. They also got approval from the supervisor at that branch. So they cashed it and gave me 13,000. At that point I figured that the check was real so i sent 6,000 to the agent in NY through western union. A couple of days later I got a call from the bank saying that the check was fake, and I had to take back the money right away. I told them the story, but they didnt care they just wanted their money back. It seemed like they thought I was in on it or I was trying to commit the fraud myself. I called western union to stop the payment but it was too late and they refered me to some website ic3.com to file a claim, which to this day i havent heard from. The bank since then has sent the case to a collection agency and put my account on CHEX system. I would like to know if i can take the bank to court, because i dont think im liable for the whole amount. I will pay for the 7,000 but why should i pay for the 6,000 when it wasnt my fault? I think its the banks fault for cashing it in the first place. Why didnt they put the check on hold to confirm it was real? I cant open bank accounts anywhere and my credit has been ruined because of this.
Am I liable for the whole amount? even though it wasnt my fault? can i take the bank to court? Thank you

My response:

Do you have any idea how many times on this site we read "your same story"? Each week we get at least three like yours.

Search the word "scam."

My response:

Did you use the "search" function? Did you use the word scam?

There are literally hundreds just like yours. Oh, sure, there's a little difference to each story, but basically they're the same.

Yes, you are responsible for the entire amount.

You, unfortunately, fell for the "too good to be true", and "hook, line, and sinker" - in other words, you are shafted any which way you turn.

Here's some links to get you started.
